This dress was inspired by a 1906 petticoat that I fell in love with after seeing it in The Met’s database. I wanted to preserve the pre-existing lace panels in the tablecloth but also needed to create gathered tiers so I had to be very strategic with my pattern placement. I also learned to do openwork for this project and spent many hours removing individual threads to create the ribbon channels.
